A new study by fashion retailer Boohoo revealed the women with the most influential style in the US after analysing Google search data for the most popular royals and celebrities. American singer Billie Eilish took the top spot followed by country singer Taylor Swift. Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, took the fourth place as her fashion is the most Googled in seven states including Colorado, Indiana, Wisconsin and Massachusetts.
Meghan Markle accumulated over 49,700 monthly fashion searches while Kate, Princess of Wales followed with 44,900 searches in the US.
Kate came fifth as the most searched woman online for her outfits and style, in particular in six US states.
A spokesperson for Boohoo commented saying that this study offers “a fascinating insight into which celebrities cause the most interest in fashion as a result of their style”.
“It is interesting to see the variation of styles that make the list, from Billie Eilish’s more informal, casual looks to Kate Middleton’s signature workwear style.”
Although Meghan Markle is more stylish than the Princess of Wales, according to Americans, Kate wore “the most popular wedding dress of all time”.
The Princess of Wales’s dress continues to amaze Britons 12 years after her wedding to Prince William.
Fashion experts at Boohoo named the most influential wedding gowns from 1923 to 2023 based on UK Google search data.

The wedding of Prince William and Kate was one of the biggest events of 2010 which saw the then Duchess of Cambridge donning a stunning dress by British designer Alexander McQueen.
In second place was Meghan, Duchess of Sussex with an average of 8,100 searches per month for her wedding dress.
“Seven years after the Prince and Princess of Wales were married, Brits tuned in to see another royal wedding. This time it was Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,” the experts commented.
Meghan opted for a Givenchy dress with a simple cut for her wedding at Windsor Castle in 2018.
Princess Diana’s wedding dress, designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, is the third most influential dress with over 3,000 people searching for her design online every month.
Other influential celebrity dresses were Nicola Peltz, Pippa Middleton, Paris Hilton, Ariana Grande, Lily Collins and Victoria Beckham.
A spokesperson for Boohoo said that celebrity wedding dresses are often “a major factor of fashion trends”.
“The public sees all these intricate designs and is inspired to use the features for their own weddings.
“We can see from the data that these weddings create a buzz around them, with people searching and talking about the designers and styles.
“It’s interesting to see that Princess Diana is on the list, considering that her wedding was long before the widespread use of the internet,” they added.
“These findings show that although weddings are a private affair with close family and friends, the high-profile of royals like the Princess of Wales and Duchess of Sussex tend to command much higher interest in their lives and the fashion they wear.”
