I'm a style pro, my 'sandwich' rule improves every outfit and is so easy to follow | The Sun

A STYLE pro has shared her number one rule when it comes to putting together her outfits – and it’s a total game changer.

Social media user Kate Hammond, who regularly posts about fashion and how to “elevate everyday mum style”, said her top tip is all about colour, as she opened up on her strict “sandwich” rule.

Kate, who can be found on TikTok at @kate_hammond, posted a video in which she was wearing a floral, orange, floaty skirt teamed with a white t-shirt with a colourful pattern.

However, the video clip then cut to her wearing exactly the same skirt – but this time she’d swapped the white t-shirt for a black top instead.

Kate then explained to her followers that the rule she used to put both of the ensembles together can be easily transferred to countless other clothes items.

It’s just as simple as remembering the “sandwich” rule where items of clothing are likened to pieces of bread and the filling inside.

“The ‘sandwich rule’ is exactly what it sounds like.

“The 2 slices of bread are the top and bottom of your outfit ( matching colours etc) and the sandwich filling is the middle of your outfit.

“Create balance by styling the top and bottom of your outfits in the same or similar colour palette.”

This means that every time you wear a lighter shade on top, the shoes you reach for should also be light.

Meanwhile, if you’ve opted for a darker tone, your footwear should also match this.

But this isn’t the only piece of style advice that Kate has shared in recent weeks.

The fashion fan also recently revealed how to make the most out of a shirt dress.

In another TikTok post, Kate wrote: “Try these few little tips if you want to elevate how you wear your shirt dress.

“A few little changes that work with your body shape can make a HUGE difference.”

She then explained that rather than having the sleeves pulled down and the sash belt tied at the front, fashionistas should mix things up.
