I’m a hairdresser – how you’re brushing & washing your locks all wrong

“In at number one is there is no point double cleansing, or cleansing at all if you’re not doing it for long enough.

“If you cleansed and set a timer and didn’t look and then wash your face, you would see that you’re probably only cleansing for 10 or 15 seconds, which is a complete waste of product, time, money.

“You’ve got to cleanse at least for one minute with your oil cleanser and then your water cleanser. That’s the only way you’re going to get a real cleanse out of it.

“Number two. It’s not necessary in the morning, you don’t need to double cleanse in the morning.

“The purpose of double cleansing is to cleanse your SPF and makeup thoroughly. I assume you’re not wearing SPF or makeup to bed.

“There’s no point in doing it in the morning. I actually don’t even wash my face at all in the morning and I know that sends some people over the edge.

“Number three is you don’t need to do it unless you’re wearing SPF or makeup or both.

“If you’ve had a day when you’ve worn neither, you don’t need to double cleanse. Just do a single cleanse.

“In at number four, and I cannot express how often I get asked this, but no micellar water is not the same.

“I do not recommend using micellar water to cleanse your face, period. Let alone as your first or second cleanse.

“In at number five, if you still have a dirty face in the morning and you still see makeup come off the cotton pad in the morning, it doesn’t mean that your face got dirty overnight.

“It means you didn’t cleanse properly the night before.

“I saw an influencer do that recently and I was screaming at my phone.

“It doesn’t mean that your skin is oily and you need to cleanse it in the morning. It means you didn’t cleanse properly last night.

“In at number six, focus on your problem areas. So when you’re using your oil cleanser, you’re massaging it into your face, focus more on those problem areas so you get less congestion in those areas.

“And in at number seven, apply the oil cleanser to dry skin, not wet skin. There are two stages of using an oil cleanser and the first is massaging it in to cleanse.

“The second is when you add water to emulsify it, and you want to be doing the first and then the second to get the most out of your oil cleanser.”
