I built a three-story home out of shipping containers, it cost £9K and is the perfect answer to the housing crisis | The Sun

A man made his own house out of old shipping containers in a bid to save money and now rents it out to others who want to experience lining in a unique space.

He even plans to make more shipping container homes to help with the housing crisis, including a homeless shelter.

Dash built the three-story container over the course of four years and the results are pretty impressive.

Speaking to Tiny House Giant Journey, he explained the the home is made from five shipping containers, plus a wood structure to form the basement.

"Each shipping container cost $2,300 (£9,890)," Dash revealed, explaining that he saved money by doing most of the work on his own.

He added: "I could probably sell it for about four times what I put into it in five years, so that's pretty good."

As well as the four containers that makeup the home, there's also a fifth vertical container Dash made to house the staircase.

When it came to decorating, he stuck to the rustic roots of the containers and even kept the original hardwood floors and iron structures.

The rooms are surprisingly spacious, since he decided to knock down the dividing walls between the sperate containers for a more open look.

The shipping containers are perfect for the rainy weather too, showing off the doors dash said: "They come with a pretty solid frame, just because they're containers so they have an amazing waterproof seal.

"These things fall over into the ocean and float for a couple of days so they're pretty waterproof."

Although he kept the original doors, he also added glass for more of a modern patio style, which is perfect for summer.

The house has everything you could ever want, including a full kitchen, large bathroom and double bedroom – but the most impressive thing is the stunning view.

Although Dash rents out the top two floors for guests, he still lives in the bottom floor of the home so he can enjoy what he built.
