THERE are plenty of factors to consider when picking out a name for your baby; how it sounds with your last name, the other people who share the name, any rhyming words that make it ripe for bullying.
Some people are also keen to pick out a moniker with a nice meaning, so it may surprise you to know that some of the most popular names have less than flattering backstories.
According to Nameberry.com, names like Courtney and Simon may be popular but actually don't have a great meaning behind them.
It could be that some parents just don't care about the characteristics attributed with the name or that some don't realise they exist before making a choice.
For example, did you know that, far from being the pretty, girlie name we associate it with – Courtney actually means "short nose".

For example; Tristan means noise or sad, Giles means young goat, Colin means young dog, Calvin means bald.
