Travel back to the nineties with everyone’s favorite raunchy teddy bear; in Seth MacFarlane‘s ted prequel series, a follow-up to the Ted film franchise set to land on Peacock at the top of 2024, MacFarlane draws from his own teenage lore of growing up with his friends in Boston to deliver Ted and young Johnny a full backstory.
In true Ted and John fashion, the duo does it all together. They go to school (which includes taking a sex education class…), attempt to talk to girls, and partake in smoking for the first time – before sitting down at a family dinner.
“The only thing that makes [being sixteen] tolerable is going through it with a friend, even if that friend is a has-been magical teddy bear with a foul mouth and a proclivity for drug use,” MacFarlane explained in a release. “We were able to put the characters through some of the same indignities and milestones we experienced back then.”
Max Burkholder stars as a 16-year-old John Bennett, with Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach as his parents and Giorgia Whigham his cousin Blaire. Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh serve as executive producers.
ted premieres on Peacock on January 11, kicking off with a “super-sized” premiere and followed by the release of all seven 30-minute episodes. Stream the trailer above.
