Vanessa Feltz has recalled the utterly bizarre advice she received during a heatwave.

The This Morning star joined Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary to discuss the day’s news, including the heatwave surging through Europe.

The ‘unprecedented’ heat phenomenon is expected to last for weeks, with people in southern Europe beginning to feel the effects.

However, while they’ve been advised to stay inside and ways to keep cool, Vanessa has now shared the advice she received when she was 14 – and we’re sure it’s not the same as what people are doing now.

The 51-year-old began: ‘In 1976, I was 14, my hormones were in a maelstrom.

‘It was a great time to be 14.

‘The sun started shining in May and it didn’t stop until we’d all gone back to school in September – it was bliss!’

She continued: ‘You couldn’t go to bed, it was too hot.

‘It was all share a bath with a stranger – I couldn’t wait!’

Her comment about sharing a bath with strangers, and apparently living her best 14-year-old life had Alison and Dermot both in giggles.

Vanessa went on: ‘My father was in the underwear business, he went into the ice cream business – everyone did.

‘It was so hot, my grandma said it was the end of the world, this never happens in England!’

‘And then it never really happened again, it was 1976, it was a long time ago.’

She urged viewers not to ‘panic’ over the current heatwave, while guest Anushka Asthana hit back that the 1976 one-off was no longer a rare occurrence.

The current record-breaking heat worldwide has been blamed on the return of the El Niño climate phenomenon.

The last time a major El Niño swept through the earth was in 2016 which was the hottest year in history.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1.
