Netflix has announced that the third and final series of Top Boy is set to arrive in September and while fans can’t contain their excitement, many are sad that the end is nigh.
The streaming giant shared the first look at season five with a short trailer showing Ashley Walters’ Dushane and Kane Robinson’s Sully at loggerheads with tensions between them reaching a fever pitch.
In the brief 36-second clip, Sully, with tears in his eyes, tells his long-standing partner: ‘How do you think we survived all this time? Look where we are from. Look at it.’
After a pause, he adds: ‘If we are not monsters, we’re food. And I could never be food.’
The pair are later seen scrapping in their go-to meeting point, the café.
Fans are already bursting with anticipation over the new series, with one writing: ‘I’m ready bruv!!! I’ve missed Sully!!!’
‘MY CHESTTTTT I CANNOT,’ another exclaimed, while a third added: ‘LET’S GO!!!’
Others aren’t ready to say goodbye to the show just yet. ‘I ain’t ready for this to be the last season man,’ said one.
Top Boy, created and written by Ronan Bennett, is set on the fictional Summerhouse estate in Hackney and has followed the pair as they strive to become the Top Boys.
Last season, Micheal Ward’s Jamie become a major player and was shipped out to Spain and Morocco to help work on a deal, however, the series finale saw him meet a pretty grim demise at the hands of Sully.
Speaking about bringing the popular series to a close, Walters told Netflix’s Tudum publication: ‘With something as great as this, you should end on a high, and that’s what we’re doing.
‘We’re all battling on a daily basis to make sure that we give our audience and the fans of the show the most amazing ending that we can.’
It was previously announced that Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson will join the show alongside returning cast members including rapper Little Simz, real name Simbi Ajikawo.
Top Boy returns in September to Netflix.
