Tommy Hilfiger Confirms Prep's Cool Factor for Fall 2022

On Sunday evening, a misty downpour soaked Brooklyn’s Skyline Drive-In theater, the destination for Tommy Hilfiger‘s “See Now, Buy Now” Fall 2022 show — but fashion week doesn’t allocate time for rainchecks. Instead, New York’s glitterati swiftly checked in wearing transparent ponchos and marched to their bleacher seats under a legion of umbrellas. In less than ideal conditions, music promptly blared across the outdoor venue; models prepped to take on a saturated runway and the show went forward. Welcome home, Tommy.

The collection opened with a bevy of oversized silhouettes, plumping volume into striped polo shirts over trousers and dramatic trench coats layered on denim. Telling a stark chromatic story, massive scarves provided a healthy dose of drama on heavier top offerings, while pants debuted on the baggier side and sweaters received priority in layering. Quickly, onlookers took note of the designer’s new TH Monogram, which was designed in collaboration with illustrator Fergus Purcell and applicquéd across almost every look.

Perhaps the most contemporary component of Hilfiger’s preppy design ethos is its ambiguous nature — yes, the collection arrived with both menswear and womenswear, but there existed a soft spot in which the two seamlessly converged. Men’s oversized rugby shirts were repurposed as dresses; bulky, multi-toned varsity jackets acquainted themselves with bright skirts; and button-up cardigans covered both shirts with ties and bare chests alike.

Hilfiger’s transatlantic collaboration with British designer Richard Quinn graced the runway, injecting Americana with a rebellious London edge via spiked leather jackets, thorned boots and myriad dual-stamped, matching ensembles. In the front row, Travis Barker donned one of the British-American line’s powerful puffer jackets, next to Kourtney Kardashian-Barker and his daughter Alabama Luella Barker.

Model Precious Lee then stormed the slicked platform in a form-fitting jumpsuit constructed entirely out of monogram-embossed denim, slashing a whip in the dampened air with each step. Alton Mason followed in the final look — a matching jacket and pant set made with the same fabrications, complete with a top hat and heeled boots — before extending a hand to Barker, inviting him to the affair for a finale performance centerstage.

To the rocking bangs of Barker’s drums, the quintessentially American imprint’s Fall 2022 collection made its final round on the runway. In unison, the line vocalized Tommy Hilfiger’s modern vision with clarity: “This is modern prep, for all.”
