Tom Cruise is Tom Cruising again, as he took to great heights in order to deliver a message to his fans on the weekend.
While your usual celebrity will simply take to social media to write something for their followers, Tom was evidently wanting to deliver his message in peak fashion for the star.
In a video taped from the set of the upcoming Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning project, the Top Gun star thanked his fans for his remarkable year, after the aforementioned film’s sequel, Maverick, achieved massive success at the box office.
Speaking to camera while half outside the plane, wind in his hair: ‘Hey everyone. Here we are over stunning South Africa, where we’re filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning parts one and two. And I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theatres and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick.’
At this, he was interrupted by director Christopher McQuarrie, who hustled Tom along as they had to ‘get the shot’.
Tom then proceeded to jump from the plane, before turning back to the camera and continuing on with his message.
He said (after his invitation to join him in the fresh air was rejected by Christopher): ‘Where was I? Oh yeah. Thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick and thank you for allowing us to entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime.’
As he continued to freefall, Tom went on: ‘I’m running out of altitude, so I have to get back to work. We have to get this shot. You have a very safe and happy holiday, we’ll see you at the movies.’
The sequel to 1986’s Top Gun saw Tom, 60, reprise his iconic role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, who is tasked with training up a school of new aviation recruits for a special mission.
Maverick won over cinema-goers worldwide with its perfect blend of pulsating action, sharp CGI and heartwarming moments to undeniably become the biggest film of the summer.
It became the biggest movie in Paramount’s 110-year history, and was also the first of Tom’s films to reach the lofty heights of $1bn (£827m) at the box office.
So, naturally, one must celebrate by jumping out of a plane.
