Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary waved a cheery goodbye to This Morning in their final show before the summer.

Fear not, the Great British Bake Off presenter, 48, and Dermot, 50, haven’t left the ITV programme for good, but instead have gone on their holidays.

While Alison and Dermot make the most of their time away, Josie Gibson, 38, and Craig Doyle, 52, will fill in for the next two weeks, an ITV spokesperson confirmed to Metro.co.uk.

They added that other summer presenters would be revealed in ‘due course.’

Announcing their time off on Friday’s This Morning, Alison said it was her ‘last day’ with the former X Factor host because of their summer break, declaring she was ‘excited.’

A similarly enthusiastic Dermot chirped: ‘Our summer break! Thank you, this is like a dream show for me!’

Fellow This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby, 42, is also currently on holiday from the show and has been spotted at her villa in Portugal.

It comes after it was reported the ITV progamme will ‘essentially be Holly’s show’ with the Wylde Moon founder to be the only permanent presenter.

ITV had been on the hunt to fill Phillip Schofield’s position, after he resigned from the broadcaster for lying about an affair with a runner, but has reportedly decided against a full-time replacement.

Instead, it’s claimed Holly will be the ‘Queen Bee’ and will be joined ‘mostly’ by Craig and Josie, with Alison and Dermot stepping in on a ‘sporadic’ basis.

An ITV source told the Daily Mail: ‘The idea of finding the next Phil to sit next to Holly has been disregarded by This Morning’s bosses. It will be Holly along with whichever rotating presenter is selected to join her. It will essentially be Holly’s show.

‘Bosses hope that they can put all of the Schofield scandal behind them and start concentrating on the content of the show rather than the twosome presenting it. At least this way there won’t be any falling out.’

Phil’s bombshell confession came after reports that Holly and her then co-presenter since 2009, were ‘barely speaking’ and their relationship had cooled behind the scenes.

After Phil’s exit, Holly took a break from the show and upon her return said was ‘shaken, troubled, let down’ and ‘full of questions’ in a now widely-mocked statement.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
