It looks like Starfield will be a pretty massive game, so you’ll have to free up quite a bit of space before hitting that download button.
Destined to become one of Bethesda’s biggest games ever, their new space exploration role-player is gearing up to offer a wealth of content, with a promise of over 1,000 planets to explore.
While there are still a lot of details yet to explain about the game, fans have discovered one crucial piece of new information: the file size.
Starfield appears to boast a file size of approximately 125GB, meaning you’ll need to free up a lot of space on your Xbox or PC hard drive ahead of the game’s launch on September 6.
This discovery was made by eagle-eyed fans who noticed Starfield’s file size is now displayed on its product page on the Microsoft Store, as well as on Steam.
Since it’s only an estimation, the file size could potentially exceed 125GB, as the game is expected to receive patches and updates in its initial weeks – as often happens to iron out bugs and glitches.
Given its considerable size, Starfield will put a strain on the relatively small 512GB storage capacity of the Xbox Series S, although it should be less of a problem for the Xbox Series X.
Although it’s certainly not small, 125GB doesn’t seem like a lot when you consider other next gen releases like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which takes up a whopping 150GB or the massive Call Of Duty sequels.
With Starfield’s pre-orders now available, you can pre-load the game even though its release is still weeks away. The pre-installation file occupies approximately 314MB of free space.
Starfield will launch for Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 6. It will not be available on Xbox One and certainly not for PlayStation 5.
