Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 was released globally on October 20 in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. While the game is exclusive to the PlayStation 5, it’s been so successful that the game broke records as the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios with over 2.5 million copies sold in the 24 hours following its release.
Less than two weeks later, Spider-Man 2 was reported to have sold more than 5 million copies worldwide. The number, which comes from the company’s latest sales report, is even more impressive given that it only accounts for the 11 days following its release.
The game’s success is likely attributable to the uptick in PlayStation 5 sales. Sony has sold nearly 5 million consoles in its most recent quarter, made possible by increased availability. Games seem to be be pairing their console purchases with Spider-Man 2.
The same quarter last year, for reference, the PS5 was comparably scarce and Sony sold just about 3.3 million consoles.
