Just like the Spice Girls; there’s five of them and they each have a unique persona and look.
Bella, Billie, Candy, Dior and Zeze make up Queenz, a sequin-and-glitter-clad drag troupe who are preparing for the Autumn tour – called Queenz: The Show With Balls – following their hit performance on London’s West End and five-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe festival.
The two-hour show sees the group performing a set list of remixed and reimagined pop anthems, and the gang set to play three nights this month, with further dates from September, starting off in Cardiff and travelling all over the UK.
In a series of candid shots taken during a show at the Blackpool Grand Theatre last month, behind the scenes moments reveal just how much work goes into the show. The queens rely on a glam squad who take around five hours to perfect their hair, make-up and outfit before each performance.
‘This show is all about fun; giving people across the country a chance to live for the moment, celebrate life and party with our incredible drag divas for a night like no other,’ explains show creator and producer David Griego.
And as the UK this month mourns the loss of Queen Mother Paul O’Grady’s Lily Savage, life-affirming acts like these are more important than ever.
