According to reports from reputable football journalist Fabrizio Romano, the son of football great, Ronaldinho, has followed in his father’s footsteps by signing a professional contract with F.C. Barcelona.
Ronaldinho, who scored a total of 94 goals in 207 matches for the Catalans over a period of five seasons, then joined Italian giants AC Milan, where he had already picked up a Champions League winners medal, two league titles, and two Spanish Super Cups before retiring from the beautiful game in 2008.
15 years on, he will be hoping his son, João Mendes can replicate the impact he had on the club, which saw him become one of the world’s best and most beloved footballers.
With this in mind, 17-year-old Mendes spent 10 days on trial with Barcelona last month in a bid to earn a contract and join the club’s famed academy. The audition was monitored by Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, and Mendes’ uncle and agent Roberto de Assis, with a view to entering negotiations over a permanent move to the club.
The move has now been confirmed by Ronaldinho, who has announced that his son will be joining his former club. As per an interview with RAC1, Ronaldinho said: “I can confirm that Barcelona will sign João. Barça has always been a part of my life and my heart and it will continue with my son.”
