Whether you’d call Rick Owens controversial or a genius, it’s hard to deny the American designer’s ability to break boundaries and rewrite the rule book — or simply do whatever he wants. There’s been $15,000 USD skateboards, mannequins that see Owens on all fours with a tabletop resting on the lifelike ornaments’ back, and nudity on the runway, and now he continues to surprise with his latest drop — no, not the Aesop collaboration, but a trio of fog machines aptly derived from Spring/Summer 2022’s “FOGACHINE” runway show.
While not the most provocative piece of Owens’ work, the choice to release a fog machine might be one of the more unusual objects to come from the multihyphenate designer. While his furniture is avant-garde and brutalist in its approach it does still function as furniture — here, the fog machine is almost exactly what it says on the tin, with the only deviation being one is a coffee table.
Starting with the coffee table, which comes in at $3,990 USD, you’ll find a typical smoke machine design made from stainless steel and plastic, weighing in at 17kg. Rick Owens’ insignia is embossed at contact points such as the handle and also appears on a plaque on the side, and is designed to look like a flight case on wheels that holds the removable coffee tray.
Joining this is the mini fog machine which is more of a presentational box, priced at $3,765 USD, while the 5.6kg “miniature” handheld iteration retails for $3,615 USD. Take a look at the objects above and purchase them all online now.
