Takashi Murakami is once again teaming up with PANGAIA on a limited-edition capsule featuring the Japanese artist’s iconic Flower Bomb and Smiling Flower designs.
The artist and the environmentally-conscious materials science company previously collaborated on a collection last year, which sold out in minutes. This time, the duo is partnering with the MoMA Design Store, part of New York City’s renowned Museum of Modern Art.
The PANGAIA x Takashi Murakami For MoMA collection is aimed at celebrating the intersectionality of art and design and hopes to raise awareness on bee conservation through PANGAIA’s #BeeTheChange initiative. The collection uses Earth-friendly materials, like recycled or organic cotton, seaweed fiber and environmentally-friendly dyes.
The designs are showcased on PANGAIA’s heavyweight recycled cotton hoodies and seaweed fiber t-shirts, and features a colorful bee character specially created for the collaboration. The fit is relaxed and gender neutral in sizing.
Hoodies are priced at $220 USD and t-shirts are $95 USD. Both will be available to purchase starting April 27 at the MoMA Design Store’s website.
Murakami recently postponed the sale of his newly-minted digital artworks as NFTs, explaining that he wanted to take more time to better understand the blockchain technology before moving forward.
