After a decade-long break, Futurama‘s Planet Express crew is preparing to make their grand return to global screens. Hulu on Tuesday dropped off the official trailer for its upcoming season 11, which sees Fry, Leela, Bender and the rest of the squad survive a “massive disruption in the flow of time” to face several present-day topics, including a pandemic, cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence.
The series’ original voice cast, including Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman, have returned for the reboot. The series was created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, who are also credited as executive producers, alongside Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz.
Here’s the official synopsis for the forthcoming season: “After a brief ten-year hiatus, Futurama has crawled triumphantly from the cryogenic tube, its full original cast and satirical spirit intact. The 10 all-new episodes of season 11 have something for everyone. New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles. Meanwhile, there’s a whole new pandemic in town as the crew explores the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture, and streaming TV.”
In February of last year, Hulu announced the beloved show’s revival, with a 20-episode order. Boasting a massive cult following, the series was previously nominated for 14 Emmy Awards and took home six trophies, including two for best animated program and best individual achievement in animation.
Futurama will make its long-awaited return on Hulu on July 24. Watch the trailer above.
