New Balance‘s 550 has become one of the most popular sneaker silhouettes in the world, for the most part, thanks to it serving as the collaborative canvas for Joe Freshgoods, Aimé Leon Dore, size? and many others to flex their creativity. However, even the general release (GR) pairs are guilty of causing a stir in the sneaker scene, with colorways such as the clean “White/Gray” iteration selling out. Now, that very pair is being given a small restock courtesy of Asphalt Gold.
This particular colorway was released in January 2022 and at just $110 USD, the sneaker was immediately snapped up by those looking for a clean sneaker to hold onto until the summer. If you didn’t get your hands on it in January, then now is your chance to cop the summer-ready sneaker.
Served in white leather, the 550 features signature “550” and “N” branding on the front-quarter and mid-panel respectively, with perforations encompassing these two definitive touches. Further “NB” stamps can be found on the heels and on the low-profile sole unit, while “new balance” has been added to the front section of the sole unit. For such a minimal pair, the branding ironically continues, gracing the retro-themed tongue tag alongside another mention of the sneaker’s numeric identity.
All details are, as expected with New Balance, perfected. Padding is extensive, comfort is king, and everything is exactly how it should be — fuss-free. Flat white laces and a white sole unit decorated with light gray details on the outsole round out this sought-after GR sneaker.
Asphalt Gold will drop the New Balance 550 “White/Gray” via a raffle on its app on April 15. Take a closer look at the pair above.
In other news, M&M’s and adidas Originals have come together on the Forum Low 84.
