Liam Payne has been left devastated after being forced to postpone his upcoming tour due to serious health issues.

The One Direction star, 29, was due to perform to thousands of adoring fans in South America later this year, but a recent hospital stay means that can no longer happen.

Making the upsetting announcement, Liam looked extremely downcast in a video shared on social media, revealing he had a kidney infection.

‘This really is the last thing I wanted to be telling you, but basically, I’ve been a little bit unwell recently and I ended up in hospital with a bad kidney infection,’ he shared.

‘We started rehearsals and I’ve just been advised that now’s really not the right time to be out on the road while I recover from this.’

He assured everyone that he has the ‘best people’ around him at home to help his recovery.

Liam signed off by promising an ‘even bigger, better show’ in the future but advised fans to look out for refunds in the meantime.

The Strip That Down hitmaker also wrote alongside the video: ‘It’s with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America.

‘Over the past week I’ve been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and doctors orders are that I now need to rest and recover.

‘I was beyond excited to come play for you guys. To all of you who have bought tickets: I’m so sorry. We’re working to re-schedule the tour as soon as we possibly can, but for now we will be refunding the tickets – so please look out for updates from your point of purchase.’

Liam signed off: ‘Thanks as always for the love and support, and look forward to seeing you soon.’

The star was inundated with messages of support and well wishes.

‘Get well soon Liam! We can wait until you feel better’, one fan commented.

Another wrote sweetly: ‘we’re here cheering for you ❤️’

‘Oh no! GET WELL SOON LIAM! Your health is the priority! ❤️’, another echoed.

Liam’s tour was due to kick off on September 1 in Peru.

He was then scheduled to perform in Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, and finish in Mexico on September 12.

His solemn update comes after Liam’s recent frank admission that he had been diagnosed with ‘a couple of conditions’.

Speaking openly about his health, the Familiar vocalist said he had experienced ‘manic moments’ that impacted his sobriety following a stay at a rehab centre in the US.

Liam has said previously that he ‘didn’t recognise’ himself as he struggled to cope with post-1D life.

But, he wanted to remind his fans that they aren’t on their own.

The boyband star said in part of his Instagram video last month that he had been ‘super low’ and had to try to ‘identify’ moments when he was not feeling so great.

Liam concluded: ‘I just wanted to put this out here anyway, because I know there are probably a few people who have the same thing, maybe you don’t even know it sometimes.

‘But, just so you know, you’re not the only one.’
