Following the release of the highly popular Sonic Mania set in 2021, LEGO and SEGA have teamed up once again for four new interactive sets including ”Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge,” “Tails’ Workshop and Tornado Plane,” “Amy’s Animal Rescue Island,” and “Sonic’s Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge.”
Highlighting the series is Sonic’s Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge, featuring a speed sphere and a launcher used to propel Sonic across the course to save the animals from Dr. Eggman and the Badniks. Amy’s Animal Rescue Island is an aquatic world filled with slides, sandcastles, and a pool while Tails’ Workshop and Tornado Plane takes to the air to collect the precious gold rings. Rounding out the series is a condensed speed Sphere challenge complete with chili dogs and DJ decks.
“It really isn’t like anything else: the sets offer an entirely new, action-packed play experience,” said designer Frédéric Roland Andre. “I’m especially proud of the Speed Sphere, as it was quite a challenge to figure out how we would get Sonic to speed up and interact with each course. Sonic is known for his speed and how he runs and jumps through courses, so for LEGO sets inspired by him there was no way we could create a static set, we simply had to be creative and make them as action-packed as possible.”
The sets are now listed on the LEGO website and are scheduled to be released on August 1. Prices range from $35 to $100 USD.
