In 2018, LeBron James officially opened the doors to the I Promise School — an elementary institution that’s based in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. We’ve seen James post various pictures of the establishment and even create Nike kicks dedicated to the children, but now we’ll be able to take a deeper look inside life of the educational destination through the upcoming I Promise feature documentary.
The film first premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Festival and will provide viewers with an up-close look at the school’s first academic year. Everything from the day-to-day trials and victories of the school to interviews of the actual students telling their stories to learning about the challenges that kids from the inner city of Akron face on everyday basis will be showcased. Marc Levin – the director — captures the school’s blueprint for a new form of urban, public education – a STEM-focused approach that’s guided by love and Social Emotional Learning merged with the LeBron James Family Foundation’s “We Are Family” philosophy.
In addition, LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, Philip Byron, Nicholas Lopez, Marc Levin, Dan Levin, Catherine Cyr and Josh Gold are all credited as executive producers for the film.
Peep the full trailer above and note that it will be released on September 28 via YouTube Originals.
