King Krule is kicking off his 2021 with a surprise cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
Released on Bandcamp, the three-and-a-half-minute cut hears the Southwark artist deliver a meditative take on the famous 1971 single. Archy Marshall is accompanied by nothing more than a pair of electric guitars and a bass guitar as he softly sings Lennon and Yoko Ono‘s optimistic lyrics of a better world. In the song’s description, he simply wrote, “Recorded in sweat, last summer, for a friend.”
This “Imagine” rendition is his first release since since February 2020’s Man Alive!, which appeared on HYPEBEAST’s Best Albums of 2020… So Far. He’s remained relatively quiet since then; Krule performed the album in its entirety in April after tour dates were postponed, then he dropped a visual for “Comet Face” in August.
