Katie Price has revealed the eye-watering amount of money she has to pay in insurance in order to be able to legally drive – and it’s a horrifying five figures.
The former glamour model and mum-of-five, 45, is forced to pay such a sum due to her history of several driving bans and offences.
In 2021, she flipped her BMW on the B2135 near Partridge Green in West Sussex in an accident while driving under the influence of drink and drugs.
She was handed a suspended sentence, as well as being disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay £85 costs.
Katie was given a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, with 100 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement sessions to be completed within the next 12 months, with the reality star later admitting she had hit ‘rock bottom’.
Now, she’s back on the roads – but it’s come at a steep financial cost of £14,000, and it could have been significantly worse.
Speaking on a TikTok live over the weekend, Katie – who has recently had surgery performed on her nose – revealed it was especially hard for her to get the insurance she wanted given her past behind the wheel.
‘No insurance company will insure me on a new car or anything flash, nothing.
‘So I am just lucky to be on the road in the car I am in, it’s not the car I want to be driving but no one will insure me. I have to wait a year to be able to get a new car again – but I’m grateful to drive,’ she told her followers.
Sharing the quotes she’d been given as she shopped around, Katie explained, via The Sun: ‘The quotes I had for my insurance on a normal car that is [worth] £15k was £73k, one was £53k and one was £33k, and they were my quotes because no one else would insure me because of who I am.’
She then accused the companies of ‘discrimination’ against her because she doesn’t have a ‘normal job’ and pointed out that the fee is ‘way more than the car’.
However, by changing her occupation, Katie was able to bring the car insurance quotes down to the lower end of five figures.
‘I changed it to author and the insurance is £14k for a year but it’s still not the car I want,’ she explained.
‘I don’t care. I am on the road, so it is what it is. I shouldn’t have done what I did, so you have to pay the price.
‘So in a year’s time I will get the car I want and until then I am grateful.’
Reflecting on her horrific crash on GB News in January this year, she told Nigel Farage: ‘There’s no excuse. I’m just thankful I didn’t hurt anyone.’
She went on: ‘I did hit rock bottom. I’ve tried to kill myself. I could not have got any more bottom than I did.
‘But I’ve come up and am sorting myself out. There’s more to come from me, and I plan to be bigger and better.’
