HBO has officially announced the premiere date of the third season of Barry, its dark comedy series starring Bill Hader.
The Emmy-winning show is set to return on April 24 and will continue to follow Hader’s Barry, a former hitman attempting to turn a new leaf as an actor:
“Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry (Hader) is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting. But getting out is messy. While Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place? Season three finds Barry and the other characters trying to make the right choice.”
Joining Hader as regular cast members are Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan, Henry Winkler and Sarah Burns, while recurring cast members include D’Arcy Carden and Michael Irby. The third season was created, written and directed by Alec Berg and Hader, who also executive produced alongside Aida Rodgers and Liz Sarnoff.
The first two seasons of Barry received a total of 30 Emmy nominations and have won six so far, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Hader, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Winkler, Outstanding Sound Editing For a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation.
Barry season three premieres April 24 on HBO.
