Florence Pugh has shared the difficulties she faces ‘being a non-water drinker’, branding the fluid ‘weird’ and ‘just boring’.
She has also bemoaned the inconvenience of it making you ‘wee all the time’, thereby apparently meaning you miss out on great experiences in life.
Such is the depth of the Oscar-nominated star’s dislike that she struggles to have water pass her lips – and she can’t even physically gulp it after exercise.
‘I don’t drink it. You know when you’ve gone for a run and you want to gulp? I can’t gulp,’ she admitted.
However, Florence, who recently confirmed that her Cooking With Flo TV series is ‘definitely happening’, is more than happy to knock back other beverages, including orange juice, elderflower pressé, golden syrup and tea ‘when it’s at the perfect temperature’.
Opening up on her campaign against water, she explained she had issues with the taste (or lack thereof), the ‘judgement’ she faces by not drinking it and the need to go to the toilet so much.
‘I think my problem with it is this – it’s something we all supposedly need to drink every day of our live and it tastes like this – it could taste like elderflower pressé, but it doesn’t,’ she told hosts Ed Gamble and James Acaster on the Off Menu podcast.
‘I’m just a bit p***ed off, in all honesty. I’m just a bit annoyed that there was no creativity in the creation of water.
‘It’s just boring’
As James and Ed pointed out that people tended to ‘frown’ at those who didn’t drink water, Florence, who is busy promoting her new film A Good Person, responded: ‘I know! It’s so judgemental.’
She saved most of her annoyance at drinking water for the issue of urination though.
‘You wee all the time – think of all the experiences that you’re missing. Every time you’re having a wee, you’re missing the best jokes ‘cos you need a wee, you’re missing the best scenes in movies ‘cos you need a wee. I prefer to just wee as little as often.’
When pushed for her ‘optimum’ number of trips to the bathroom each day, the Don’t Worry Darling actress settled on it being just ‘once a day’.
The NHS does suggest that adults should drink six to eight glasses of water a day, although lower-fat milk, tea, coffee and sugar-free drinks count towards this total as well.
For those that don’t like the taste of water, trying sparking water or adding a slice of lemon or lime is suggested, or heating it up and infusing a tea bag, coffee or a lemon slice.
