Drift, the alias of Isaac Wright, has dropped an NFT entitled “First Day Out” capturing his experience of the first day out after being released from jail on April 9 of last year. In an open edition sale, Drift sold 10,351 units for 0.2 Ethereum apiece, equating to over $6.8 million USD in profit.
15% of the proceeds will go to the non-profit organization The Bail Project, which helps cover bail costs for those incarcerated who cannot afford it.
Drift, a former U.S. paratrooper who uses urban exploration as a medium to cope with PTSD, called the drop “a historic day for the space and for photography.”
After opening on Saturday, the drop ran for 24 hours. The NFT itself has a “night mode” and “day mode.” In “night mode,” it shows Wright sitting on a bridge looking out at the Manhattan skyline, and in “day mode,” shows him celebrating his first day upon being released.
