Dover Street Market Teases New Balance 991 Collaboration

Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe‘s conceptual multi-brand retailer Dover Street Market has produced dozens of highly sought-after collaborations since it first opened in 2004, serving everything from its recent velvet Nike Dunks to Vans Slip-Ons, but now a new sneaker is about to enter the ring — a DSM x New Balance 991.

In a twist of events that no one saw coming, Dover Street Market’s social media accounts have teased a rather illusive image of the upcoming collaboration. Whether it adopts the store’s consistent love for all things black and white is still unknown, given the picture’s blurry and hazy aesthetic, but what can be seen is that the heels are adorned with DSM branding in the theme of the 991 branding that is typically placed on the rear of the shoe.

The New Balance 991 has been a footwear staple in many sneakerheads’ rotations since it was first released in 2001, and today it remains a fan favorite for its signature “dad shoe” aesthetic and comfort. This comes courtesy of an ABZORB-packed sole unit — which can be seen in DSM’s teaser — as well as a Ndurance rubber compound outsole.

So far, DSM has said that the collaborative 991 “arrives soon at Dover Street Market locations globally in-store and online.” It has listed that DSM London, New York, Los Angeles, Ginza, Singapore and Beijing will be stocking the pairs — but this does not mean that mass hysteria won’t occure.

Take a look at the teaser above, and stay tuned to HYPEBEAST for more information about the upcoming collaboration.

In other news, Stüssy and Nike are releasing a familiar-looking Air Force 1 Mid.
