Willow is receiving a TV revival this fall on Disney+. It was first announced in October 2020 that the streamer would be making a sequel series for the 1988 film of the same name, with the epic adventure taking place years after the movie’s events.
The original film was directed by Ron Howard and executive produced by George Lucas. Howard will return, this time as an executive producer of the series. Jon M. Chu, who worked on In The Heights and Crazy Rich Asians, will direct.
“It’s creatively exciting to not only revisit the world and characters first conceived by George Lucas, Bob Dolman and myself but to see it take flight in such fresh, fun and cinematic ways through the imagination of Jon Kasdan and Team Willow,” Howard said. “This isn’t a nostalgic throw-back, it’s a creative lean-forward and it’s a blast to be a part of it all.”
Willow will premiere on Disney+ on November 30. Warwick Davis will reprise his portrayal of the titular Willow. Additional cast members include Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber and more.
In other entertainment news, the Ahsoka TV series will premiere in 2023 on Disney+.
