Deep Silver has just made a surprise reveal of Dead Island 2 over at Gamescom. The sequel to 2011’s Dead Island has long been rumored to be in the works, and in 2014 the studio even dropped a cinematic trailer teasing its release. However, development stalled shortly after, with the game being passed around to numerous studios and teams after Deep Silver restructured its business over the years.
Luckily for fans of the original, Dead Island 2 has finally received confirmation and even a release date via a new gameplay trailer, giving fans a first look at what they can expect after a decade-long break between titles. Created as an ode to classic horror films from Hollywood, Dead Island 2 will offer a roster of six playable characters you can choose from, each with their own personalities and traits. The first-person RPG element is largely retained from its predecessor, and you’ll also be able to team up with up to three additional players in co-op mode. To make things more interesting this time round, Deep Silver has also built a new skill tree system that gives you more control over your character’s unique abilities while tackling a wide range of different zombie types.
For fans of the original franchise, Dead Island 2 is due to arrive for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC February 3, 2023.
In other related news, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is reportedly moving to Saber Interactive.
