Daniel W. Fletcher is one of London’s most respected names, continuously producing collections that comment on his surroundings and life experiences across both his eponymous label and his work for Fiorucci. From a joy-inducing collaboration with Courvoisier to the nostalgia of Fiorucci SS22, his mental health awareness-raising beanies and of course the highly personal Fall/Winter 2022 runway show and collection that debuted at London Fashion Week this February, everything Fletcher touches has personality and personable qualities to it, making you fall in love with his work with just as much admiration for it as the designer has for it himself. Now, the aforementioned FW22 collection is available to buy — and it’s about to give you a complete wardrobe restock.
While the collection is a tribute to his late father, Fletcher also reflected on his previous work to create what is arguably one of his finest collections to date. References to the 1970s appear throughout, particularly drawing on the sounds that defined his father’s tastes. The Rolling Stones are a focal point, with the band’s rock attitude punctuating much of the leathers, classic tailoring in navy pinstripes and cream moire silk, and a sense of anarchy with alterations made to house signatures such as his wraparound belts that now appear semi-undone.
The collection, which is titled “Before the Morning Comes,” looked great styled on the runway. Thankfully it translates well into real life, as those cream moire pieces can be combined for a stunning formal suit or worn individually for a typical Fletcher flair of campy schoolboyness.
Metallic bang logo T-shirts accentuate the rock themes that can be found throughout, as does the addition of contrast stitching sitting atop black denim two-pieces that can be mixed and matched or worn as separates. The incredibly wearable collection continues with split hem leather trousers, something that wouldn’t look amiss on Mick Jagger, while a cutout heart shirt happens to both round things off and stand as one the best pieces in the collection.
