Coachella Fined $117,000 USD for Breaking Curfew Every Night of Weekend 1

Goldenvoice, the organizers behind Coachella, were fined a total of $117,000 USD for curfew violations over weekend one as performances went over the alloted time for all three nights. The curfews were reportedly set for 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and midnight for Sunday, with performances all running over by more than 20 minutes each night.

Officials say that with the current contract agreement, five minutes past curfew results in a fine of $20,000 USD. After that, fines tally up $1,000 USD per minute. The money is said to go towards Indio’s General Fund which benefits public works, police, and fire departments in the region.

For his heavily-anticipated headline performance, Frank Ocean showed up an hour late, and while running 25 minutes over, was forced to end his show early saying: “Guys I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show.” According to inside sources, Ocean reportedly injured his ankle and called for last minute changes to the stage setup which originally contained an ice rink. The background dancers seen on stage were in reality, hockey players and ice skaters who had been practicing a routine for weeks. It’s currently unclear whether his Weekend 2 set will live up to the original vision.
