On Tuesday, August 30, RTFKT’s Clone X announced the first season of its Forging system, which enables users to acquire physical merchandise based on their specific NFT.
The dynamic drop allows users of specific Clone X NFTs to order merch that is tied to their avatar’s DNA. With over 10 unique total sets and more than 60 individual items.
Each set is unlocked by the following token traits, Human, Robots, Demons, Angels, Reptile, Undead, Murakami, Alien, Murakami Drip, and a general collection that all Clone X holders have access to.
Premium wearables include hoodies, jackets, t-shirts, hats, socks, and sneakers — making this one of the largest drops the NFT space has seen. The number of items each holder will be able to order depends on the number of tokens they have and the type they have, with the average being two per Clone. Although, the limited edition Clone X Genesis t-shirt will be free to mint for all holders.
Prices for the collection range from as low as $30 USD to as high as $600 USD for the limited-run Air Force 1 sneakers. According to the lookbook, however, sneakers will not be available to be forged during this season one event, and will likely have their own dedicated Forge release.
To create another layer of interconnectivity, each item with the exception of socks and hats is equipped with near field communication (NFC) tags. These tags make the items “phygitals” and open up the opportunity for token-gated use of the merchandise, like access to events.
“With this drop, we aim to continue to inspire the next generation of what a phygital future can be,” said RTFKT’s Co-Founder Benoit Pagotto, adding that “unlocking new looks via your Avatar and blurring the lines between your digital and physical identity is just the beginning. Clone X Forging is another step towards accelerating that future and letting our community be at the forefront of innovation.”
The collection is set to go live on Wednesday, August 31, and will be open for minting for one week. After the mint has concluded, users will have another week to forge their NFTs for physical items.
