Hedi Slimane‘s CELINE HOMME brought all the punk glamor for its Winter 2022 collection “BOY DOLL.” In a Slimane-shot film, models capture five cornerstones of CELINE HOMME’s aesthetic: “Cold Tailoring,” “Glam Punk,” “Berlin Wave,” “Emo Boy,” and “E-Boy Skater.” The theme is echoed by the emblematic backdrop of L’Olympia Bruno Coquatrix, which opened in 1893 and served as an opulent space for operas and ballet performances, and to contrast this grandeur (in ways similar to the collection’s juxtapositions), ShitKid‘s punk-tinged song “Favourite Thing” has been co-produced by Slimane to pound in time with the models.
In Slimane’s usual manner, every single look dazzled and was executed with utmost perfection. Not a stud or shimmer out of place, garments were cut in two ways: either typically CELINE with skinny shoulder-cutting proportions, or baggy inline with the brand’s contemporary aesthetic. Regardless, it resulted in some of Slimane’s finest work to date at the luxury house, further enhancing his vision and separating it from previous endeavors.
Boxy jackets with cropped, flared, and distressed pants — both tailored and denim — were met with shiny pinstripes that ran down some of the more formal looks, however, particular standouts were the silver and gold fringed sweaters, or the sweat pants that received couture treatment in the form of sparkling beaded threads swinging from every inch of fabric.
Elsewhere, the American artist Banks Violette’s work featured on three looks, namely the oversized leather teddy jacket with a flag, the cropped white tank tops with a black flag, and the oversized leather biker jacket that depicts a white horse on the reverse. Shimmers were applied into fabrics for a red suit ensemble, as well as into a sheer white top worn underneath various looks, notably one shrouded by a leopard print coat and another by the studded leather biker.
Glam punk undertones were continued by CELINE HOMME’s strass “BOY DOLL” jewelry, as well as the new “Celine Moon” sunglasses that all models wore. Rounding out the collection were Cruiser boots, knee-high cowboy-esque gold boots, and more styles fitted out with large platforms.
