Celebrity MasterChef star Richie Anderson hung his head in shame after serving up a kitchen nightmare.
The former Strictly contestant, 35, joined fellow stars Dani Dyer, James Buckley, Marcus Brigstocke and Mica Ven as they attempted to impress judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode in the kitchen.
However, the Radio DJ failed to win over Gregg after plating up a dish that hadn’t been properly cooked on Wednesday’s episode.
Richie had prepared a meal of fruit punch jerk chicken with rice and peas and a roasted red pepper dip.
But, after cutting into the chicken, Gregg remarked: ‘Chicken is a little bit pink in here my friend.’
Looking crestfallen, Richie stuttered: ‘Yeah.’
Gregg did, though, go on to praise the sauce and dip, complimenting Richie’s palate, while John said there were no ‘issues’ with his chicken.
Speaking to producers after John and Gregg’s verdict, Richie hung his head in his hands and lamented: ‘I served Gregg Wallace pink chicken. I’m absolutely mortified.
‘I just wilted like a bit of spinach in a frying pan.’
Back in the kitchen, Richie looked like he was doing the walk of shame as he asked his fellow contestants for a hug, with Mica rushing over to console him.
Unfortunately, it seems that the chicken spelled out Richie’s downfall as John and Gregg decided to eliminate him first from the competition.
Richie admitted he was ‘gutted’ as he’d had ‘an amazing time’ but had ‘caught the bug’ for cooking having previously been a stranger to the kitchen.
Richie wasn’t the star in Celebrity MasterChef to shock Gregg, after Inbetweeners star James, 35, revealed he’d never cooked rice.
Staring at him in disbelief, Gregg replied: ‘Oh come on!’
‘I know it’s really bad, that’s one of the reasons I wanted to come on the show out of shame almost. You can get it in a bag can’t you and put it in a bag,’ said James.
Gregg loudly giggled and looked down in shock following James’ confession.
Celebrity MasterChef continues on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
