After months of anticipation, the NBA’s lifestyle partner Canada Goose launches its latest collaborative capsule with trailblazing designer Salehe Bembury. The arrival of the limited-edition collection celebrates 75 years of the basketball league and its annual All-Star exhibition.
The second installment in Canada Goose’s ongoing NBA partnership – which follows the first collaboration with designer Rhude – sees Bembury curate and interpret four winter-focused garments. While the collection abides by Bembury’s core nature-inspired design principles, it’s the designer’s early memories of ’90s basketball that act as its key reference.
Channeling the experimental and bold spirit of the decade, Bembury remodels the Expedition Parka, Concord Fleece, Signal Vest and Tundra Bib. Though designed for the harshest of climates, the oversized cut and padded casing of the iconic Expedition Parka is starkly reminiscent of ’90s outerwear trends.
On the Tundra Bib Overall, Bembury introduces a sheer material with a chunky quilted pattern. Accented with thick black straps and visible zips, the piece is striking yet true to Canada Goose’s functional ethos. Layerable pieces are supplemented in the collection with the Signal Vest and Concord Fleece. Mottled in Bembury’s trademark thumbprint pattern, the Concord Fleece is the collection’s playfully designed piece but with a deep color palette, allows for mix and matching with the accompanying Signal Vest.
For the launch, director Foster Huntington shoots a stop motion animation that tells the story of a cartoonized Bembury taking part in three different outdoor activities adorned in the capsule collection. The video emphasizes the versatility and in-built functionality across the collection but also chimes into Canada Goose’s Play in the Open campaign.
The Canada Goose & NBA Collection in collaboration with Salehe Bembury is available to shop now from Canada Goose’s website, London and Paris retail stores, and exclusive European wholesale partner END.
