This Morning stars ‘threaten to quit’ in fallout from Phillip Schofield’s affair revelation

The future of This Morning could be at risk as a number of the show's presenters have threatened to quit, following former presenter Phillip Schofield's shocking affair revelation.

Following Phillip's public admission, ITV have revealed that three years ago they investigated the claims that Phillip had had an affair with a much young colleague, but that it was denied by both parties.

The broadcaster released a statement that they were "deeply disappointed" by the TV star's "admissions of deceit", adding that he will not be appearing on any ITV shows in the future.

And it seems that the This Morning sofa could be rocked with even more departures, as a number of the show's presenters are said to be considering quitting the show.

A source told The Sun on Sunday: "The future of the show is hanging by a thread and the presenting talent are unsure of their next move – they’re deciding whether to leap from a sinking ship.

"The whole This Morning senior team is in complete damage-limitation mode worrying about the presenters who might walk away.

"Phillip no doubt thinks he has tried to do the right thing but the overwhelming feeling on set is that procedures need to be put in place to ensure the same mistakes never happen again."

The insider added that some of the presenting team think there's too much "toxicity" surrounding the show and that it may be time to move on with their careers.

The outlet reports that one high-profile presenter has already drafted their resignation statement, as others are also considering walking away.

And a second insider has told the publication that ITV is even considering axing the show altogether, and that it could be replaced with a new name and format.

An ITV spokesperson told The Express of the show's future: "This Morning is not under review and there’s no plans for the show to be axed. This Morning will return on Monday."

It comes after Phillip's long-time co-presenter Holly Willoughby released a statement sharing that she is "very hurt" over Phillip lying to her about the affair when she questioned him about it.

Posting to her Instagram Stories the TV star wrote: "It's taken time to process yesterday's news.

"When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not. It's been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie. Holly."
