Smash Mouth Reveal New Lead Singer, Share ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ Cover

Smash Mouth have revealed their new lead singer after Steve Harwell announced his retirement from the band. The band also shared a cover of Rick Astley‘s classic “Never Gonna Give You Up.”

On Kevan Kenney‘s Audacy show, bassist Paul De Lisle revealed that they have tapped Zach Goode as their new lead singer.

“His name is Zach Goode, he’s from Brooklyn, Provincetown, New York City via L.A. and we’re very, very happy to have him on board,” De Lisle said.

Goode also appeared on the show and explained how got drafted as Smash Mouth’s new singer. He said that he knew the band was looking for a new singer and initially decided to write them an email as a “goof.”

“They’re not going to ever respond to this email,” he said about his initial thoughts. “[I] didn’t put too much thought, well, maybe I put a little bit of thought into it. It was like, ‘hey do you want a guy with some bad ’90s tattoos and a dad bod?'”

Goode was previously the frontman for Divided By Zero and Secret Seven.

In October 2021, Smash Mouth performed at a beer and wine festival in Bethel, New York, where Harwell appeared to be intoxicated, threatening audience members and performing what looked like a Nazi salute. Following the performance, Harwell announced his retirement due to ongoing health issues.
