When the dating show Too Hot to Handle hit Netflix last year, it felt as if circumstances had conspired to give audiences their newest reality TV obsession. A cast of sexy young people who were single and ready to mingle, but were forced to exercise restraint and resist the inexorable urge to hook up? Streaming during a global pandemic, at a time when we were all also horny but stuck in quarantine and prohibited from indulging in human contact? Talk about serendipity.
Naturally, locked-down viewers binged the entire show in droves, and in their infinite wisdom, the powers that be at Netflix have renewed Too Hot to Handle for a second season. Featuring an all-new cast of contestants hoping to win big (and maybe find love?), Season 2 will begin streaming on June 23—and Netflix just whetted our appetites with a trailer which teases some of the upcoming shenanigans.
The clip also serves as a refresher of the show’s premise, both reminding fans and introducing newcomers. Living under the rule of an all-knowing, Amazon Alexa-esque dictatorial speaker named Lana, the contestants are tasked with getting to know each other and forming emotional bonds, but are banned from physical intimacy. No kissing, no cuddling, and absolutely no sex. Each time something like this occurs, the prize money is reduced.
Of course, with this being reality TV, and the contestants being a bunch of horned-up, beautiful people in an idyllic desert setting, fans can expect those rules to be flouted on multiple occasions, if the montage of smooches and embraces in the trailer is anything to go by. There is even a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of some rhythmic movement under a bedsheet—although whether that’s two people hooking up, or just one person dealing with some of their sexual frustration, remains to be seen.
