Rylan Clark defended by Eamonn Holmes after troll accuses him of faking illness

Eamonn Holmes has rushed to the defence of Rylan Clark after an online troll accused the former X Factor star of faking illness.

Rylan sparked concern last week aftersharing a snap of himself in hospital, and hassince gave a health updateto his fans and said he was “resting”.

His most recent trip to hospital came after he received medical attention last monthfollowing hissplit from husband Dan Neal last year.

Rylan's periods of illness have meant that he's been absent from his weekly Radio 2 show on a handful of occasions and in the wake of his illnesses, a troll accused the star of pulling a “sickie”, while hitting out at Eamonn who they said they've "never been a fan of".

They wrote on social media, in a now-deleted Tweet: “Never been a fan of @EamonnHolmes but sadly our TV & radio shows are loaded with presenters like him, who openly admit to having no talent or opinions & wonder why they’re in their well paid jobs. At least @piersmorgan has an opinion. Also growing weary of @Rylan’s 'sickies'.”

Rylan himself clapped back at the post as he wrote: “Sickies? I was ill?”

Eamonn then came to his pal's defence, writing: “Rylan , I was going to challenge this stupid ignoramus …. decided not to but because he has annoyed you he has annoyed me more . I know how truly ill you have been … I just hope he never catches one of your 'Sickies'. Stay well my friend x”.

Rylan responded to the message with a heart emoji.

Other Twitter users also defended Rylan. One person said: “Take your time…you are like Eamonn, really good telly. Just don’t burn yourself out. We want you to be on telly for a long, long time, but not at the cost of your health. Your health is more important and your mind & body knows best.”

Another penned: “Why do people feel the need to be damn right nasty if they can’t say anything nice then don’t comment at all x glad you can rise above these comments @EamonnHolmes @Rylan”.

Others went on to applaud Eamonn for his response.

This Morning’s Josie Gibson recently sent her well wishes to Rylan in the wake of the news he was back in hospital.

She tweeted on Thursday 17 February: “I am sending so much love to one of the nicest men in showbiz @Rylan you are so loved, so bloody gorgous and more importantly you have a beautiful heart,” followed by a string of heart emojis.
