Prince Harry says men in royal family married women ‘who fit the mould’ but he went with ‘his heart’

Prince Harry has appeared to make a dig at the Prince and Princess of Wales in his and wife Meghan Markle's new Netflix docuseries, saying that men in the royal family have married women "who fit the mould" rather than someone who they are a better fit with romantically.

Speaking in the bombshell series, Harry, 38, said: "I think for so many people in the family, especially obviously the men, there can be a temptation or an urge to marry someone who would fit the mould, as opposed to somebody who you are perhaps destined to be with.

"It's the difference between making decisions with your head or your heart, and my mum certainly made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart, and I am my mother's son."

Harry and William's mother, the late Princess Diana, passed away in August 1997 following a car accident.

Prince William and Kate Middleton met in 2001 whilst they were both studying at St Andrews University in Scotland, but they reportedly didn't become a couple until 2003.

They also endured a brief break-up in 2007, with Kate later saying she "wasn't very happy about it", before marrying in 2011.

Speaking in their engagement interview in 2010, William said: "When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her. I knew there was possibly something that I wanted to explore there.

"We ended up being friends for a while, and that just sort of was a good foundation. Because I do generally believe now that being friends with one another is a massive advantage. And it just went from there.

In the show Harry goes on to describe Meghan as "everything he was looking for" and told his friends he thought she might be the 'The One' after their first two dates.

He says: "This woman is amazing, she's everything I've been looking for, she's so comfortable and relaxed in my company.

Meghan was equally smitten and in the series her friend, Suits producer Silver Tree, reveals that Meghan text her saying: "I am crazy about him."

And it was Meghan who organised their second date, with the pair going for dinner at the same place they had drinks for their first date.

She says her now-husband told her it was "so forward and American" that she had coordinated their second date just a day after their first in the summer of 2016.
