Maura Higgins has warned fans to go to their health appointments as it could save their lives – just days after her best friend Molly-Mae Hague revealed she cancelled a blood test four times before eventually going.
Taking to Instagram Stories, former Love Island star Maura, 31, who recently said she was on the “road to recovery” after a mystery illness, documented her trip to the hospital as she told her 3.4million followers she had a smear test as well as blood tests.
Opening up about her experience, she said it was “absolutely fine” and urged others to book in for a smear test.
“If anyone ever says to you that a smear test is painful, uncomfortable or anything, they are drama queens. I do not care,” she said.
“I’ve had smears in the past and they never hurt. I had one today, didn’t even know I was getting one, and it was absolutely fine.”
Maura later said: “So many people are actually saying that they found their smear tests painful.
"I completely get that everyone’s experience is so different and I get that people who have problems with their cervix, yes it’s going to be uncomfortable, it’s going to be painful.”
She went on to speak about other procedures, as she continued: “The way I look at it, people are dying every single day of the week. A smear test, an internal check, blood tests – they take a split second.
“And honestly it could save your life, so I think it’s so important.”

It comes just days after her pal Molly-Mae, 22, revealed that she cancelled a blood test a total of four times out of fear.
In a new YouTube video, she said: “I’ve been for a blood test. I just have to tell you guys that because I am really proud of myself.
“I cancelled this specific blood test four times. I think that might be a new record.”
She added: “I do usually cancel them one or two times before getting the balls.”
