Martha Stewart attends New York red carpet event in 2022
Martha Stewart, 81, made history by being the oldest woman to ever grace the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit as she posed for the publication’s 2023 issue.
However, the US star’s photos have been called into question by Loose Women panellist, Janet Street-Porter.
It comes after Martha explained her reasoning behind the photoshoot was to change perceptions of those insecure about their ageing bodies.
The ITV panellist has branded the American businesswoman’s claim “absolute rubbish” as she suggested famous men are not “expected to get their kit off and pose in pants”.
The Loose Women commentator claimed “nudity has become the new marketing tool” for women over a certain age.

Writing in her latest column for The Daily Mail, Janet, 76, wrote: “Martha Stewart thinks these swimsuit pictures will empower other women – which is absolute rubbish.
“She has posed to get her name in the news and to reinvigorate her middle-class lifestyle business by doing something totally unexpected. (And it will probably work).”
Janet also called into question other celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, 50, who celebrated her birthday milestone in a photoshoot dripped in just gold paint, as well as Jennifer Lopez, 53, who posed topless last December to launch her skincare line.
The columnist later stated: “You wouldn’t expect the female head of a bank or a law firm to pose in a swimsuit to encourage other women to aim high and break the mould.
“And why should 70 or 80-year-olds have to emulate women 40 years younger? It just seems unhealthy and doomed to failure.”
Martha donned different swimsuits, showing off her ageless appearance and amazing physique.
One image showed her standing in a red one-piece with a plunging neckline, while another featured the TV personality smiling toward the camera in a white bathing suit and an orange shawl.
She has since spoken out after critics suggested her photos had been retouched and accused the publication of “over-touching” Martha’s images with airbrushing.
She responded to the allegations, saying: “They’re very good. There are only a few naysayers saying, ‘The pictures are over-retouched.’ But they’re not.
“They are incredibly accurate pictures. I was really pleased that there was not much airbrushing,” she told Variety.
The food writer, who rose to fame in the eighties with cookbooks including Entertaining (1982) and Martha Stewart’s Secrets for Entertaining (1988), reportedly went to Pilates three times a week, controlled her diet, and stopped consuming alcohol.
“I had my regular facials but maybe more frequently and I also got a spray tan,” Stewart said. “And I’m not a hairy person, but I got a complete body wax.”
