Machine Gun Kelly has opened up on his past struggles with his mental health, revealing that in 2020 he attempted suicide while on the phone with his now fiancée Megan Fox.
The Go For Broke star – real name Colson Baker – said that he ‘snapped’ while struggling to come to terms with his father’s death and dealing with ‘really wild paranoia’.
The 32-year-old musician was raised by his father, after his mother – whom he has recently credited his fans for helping him reconnect with – left when he was nine.
In his new Hulu documentary Life in Pink, which was released on the streaming platform on Monday, MGK detailed how things got ‘really, really, really dark’ after he flew to his dad’s apartment to clear things out following his death.
‘I had this really weird interaction with this neighbour who told me all these things I didn’t want to hear. That f**ked me up even more because I couldn’t get closure on it,’ the rapper said, as reported by People magazine.
Recalling that his then-girlfriend Megan was away shooting a film in Bulgaria, he continued: ‘I kept getting paranoid that someone was gonna come and kill me […] and like, one of the days, I just f**king snapped.
‘I called Megan, I was like, “You aren’t here for me”. I’m in my room and I’m like freaking out on her.’
This difficult moment helped him realise things were ‘not right’, however, and MGK revealed that it was Megan as well as his 12-year-old daughter Casie, who he shares with ex Emma Cannon, whose care prompted him to seek help.
‘They simultaneously came at me with this like, “I want to be able to see in your eyes. I don’t want to be talking to you through a veil anymore. I want to see you as my father and I want to see you as my husband-to-be,”’ he shared in the documentary.
After acknowledging in that moment that he needed to ‘kick the drugs, for real this time’, the musical star described Megan as ‘the sun to me’ and their relationship as a ‘fairytale’.
MGK popped the question at the beginning of the year, with the couple celebrating in their usual gothic style by ‘drinking each other’s blood’.
More recently, MGK and Megan were spotted celebrating close friends Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s wedding, while the star dedicated a song at the Billboard Music Awards to his fiancée.
They also attended the premiere of their new movie Taurus together at the Tribeca Film Awards in New York earlier this month.
