Kate Middleton teams up with Roger Federer in bid to raise money for children’s charity

The Duchess of Cambridge is set to pick up the racket and play tennis with Wimbledon legend Roger Federer during an engagement with schoolchildren, it has been announced.

Kate Middleton, 40, will play with the Swiss star for a day of tennis with school children in East London next month.

The 20-time grand-slam champion, 41, and the royal, who are said to have a good relationship as she's regularly attended his matches, will take to the court with children aged between the ages of eight and 15.

The event is part of a charitable initiative that will benefit two organisations supported by Kate.

Tickets for the Laver Cup Open Practice Day, which will take place on September 22 at The O2, will be released a month in advance on August 22 and will see Kate, Roger and other superstars rallying up the crowd.

All money raised from ticket sales for the practice day will be split between Action for Children and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), whose charitable branch is the LTA Tennis Foundation.

After the practice day, the actual sporting event will begin. The Laver Cup hosts six of the best players in Europe as they compete against six other athletes from the Rest of The World.

It's a tournament that was set up my Roger himself, while the practice day collaboration was suggested by the Duchess.

Tennis is a real passion of Her Royal Highness who wants to do as much as possible to develop it at grass roots level, encouraging kids from all backgrounds to take up the sport.

This won't be the first time Kate has weaved tennis into a royal engagement.

After Britain's young star Emma Raducanu won the US open at just 18 years old, Kate hosted a homecoming victory event.
