John Whaite and his Strictly Come Dancing 2021 co-stars have been on the nationwide tour since January 20 when the cast commenced their first show at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. On Tuesday, the tour made its stop in Sheffield for two shows.

But during last night’s gig, the Bake Off star, who became the runner-up on last year’s Strictly, said that he couldn’t contain his giggles on stage.

Taking to Instagram to explain the incident to his 308,000 followers on Wednesday, the 32-year-old said he had performed his Paso Doble routine when he started laughing midway through the choreography.

“I’ve had to banish myself to the naughty step,” John said in his Instagram Story post.

“During our Paso Doble here in Sheffield, I got the giggles.

“I couldn’t stop laughing on the stage.”

The tour will continue in Liverpool later today for two shows before heading to Glasgow for another three gigs.

John and his fellow Strictly stars have more than a handful of shows to go before wrapping up the final show at the O2 Arena in London on February 13.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that John had reportedly landed his “dream job” after being cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s upcoming West End musical.

An announcement on the forthcoming show, which is believed to kick off in July, is expected soon.

But according to The Sun, the professional baker will be taking centre stage as one of the lead characters.

“It’s a dream job for him,” a source gushed.

“He really impressed on Strictly and when Andrew found out John has an excellent singing voice too, he reached out.

“It could be an incredible new start for him.”

However, John has addressed the rumours, saying on Instagram: “Don’t believe everything you read in the papers guys. When I’ve got some good news I promise you I’ll be the one to tell you first.”

As previously mentioned, John and his dance partner Johannes came in second place in the Strictly final, with EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice winning the Glitterball trophy.

Following his time on the BBC programme, the Chopping Block star revealed that he became “depressed” and “cried” everyday, despite being on a luxurious getaway trip at the time.

During an appearance on Steph’s Packed Lunch last month, John recalled how he spent his vacation in Scotland crying non-stop, saying he didn’t enjoy the relaxing stay as much as he should have.

“I went to Scotland after Strictly, lived in a cabin to get away from it all and I cried everyday, I was that depressed,” he remembered.

“The wrong thing to do from Strictly to the Scottish Highlands, it was a bit much.

“I wasn’t ready.

Speaking of the trip, he continued: “I love it, I’d go again but after Strictly, it was too much of a crash.”
