New Life in the Country star Sarah Beeny, 50, and her family are currently undergoing work to build a modern, stately home of their dreams. The presenter, her husband Graham and their four sons have each taken on duties with the help of local companies to make it happen.
Following last week’s episode, the property expert hit back after she was called privileged.
Twitter user Bea wrote: “Stomach churning privilege Sarah Beeny tonight on C4, a celebration of the wealthy + upper class, so smug & self conceited.
“It’s so nauseating to see how detached they are from real life in the UK.
“So many kids won’t get anywhere near that house. YUCK @Channel4 @sarahbeeny.”
The presenter replied saying she hadn’t always had the joy of renovating a luxury home and lived in a caravan for two years during her childhood.
“I loved it but it didn’t stop me aspiring,” she replied.
“I know I’m privileged -but my biggest privilege is living in a country where women have the opportunity to work freely and have the opportunity to succeed and for that I am so very grateful.”
Many of her fans rushed to defend her against the backlash.
Dave Ward commented: “It’s far from stomach churning, it’s brilliant and heart warming family viewing and shows what you can achieve with hard work and conviction.
“I’ve failed loads of times at lots of things, but I’m still going. people like you give me hope that if I keep going I might make it!”
Cath P added: “Working hard and making a difference to your life is not a crime.
“We are loving the series & as I have said previously your family comes across really well.”
