In an interview with Red Magazine last month, Joanne detailed the struggles the last year has brought with it.
She said: “I didn’t think I’d be divorced, I didn’t think we’d be going through a pandemic, I didn’t think my life would be in flux in the way it was.
“But I’m OK with that.”
Joanne added: “I’m so grateful for my friends and family, for my health and to have been working so much during this past year.”
Joanne expressed that she was very excited to get on with the next chapter in her life.
She said: “I’m excited to move forward with it and get my head around the direction in which I want to take things.
“I know what I want, what I don’t want, what I will and won’t put up with.”
It was revealed in February 2020 that Joanne was separating from James after eight years together.
Last year, the star revealed the couple would continue to co-run their production company, Run After It.
However, Joanne revealed to the aforementioned publication that she had taken over the company by herself and had recently signed a deal with Sky.
Joanne was previously engaged to DJ Phil Vane when she was 19.
Best known for portraying Anna Bates in Downton Abbey, Joanne has dominated the small screen since.
For this role she received three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2017.
She will be reprising this role in the second Downton Abbey film, due to be released in March.
At the end of July, it was announced she will star in the new BBC One drama Sherwood.
The drama, based on real events, looks at a mining village changed by two murders.
Joanne is currently starring in a six part thriller series on ITV called Angela Black.
She plays Angela, who is trapped in a relationship when she is approached by a private investigator offering her safety.
While on the show, Joanne has tweeted help for others who may be going through similar to her character.
You can watch Angela Black on Sundays at 9pm on ITV.
