Great British Bake Off finalist Crystelle Pereira has revealed how she felt about losing out to winner Giuseppe Dell’Anno in a statement posted on Instagram.
In Tuesday’s finale episode of the show, the Italian baker came out on top over finalists Chigs Parmar and Crystelle, and the 26-year-old gave her thoughts on the result as she posted a photo of the trio together holding bouquets.
"First and foremost – the BIGGEST auguri [congratulations] in the world to Giuseppe. He is the most humble, naturally talented, hilarious and genuine gentleman out there,” Crystelle wrote.
“I’ve felt so honoured and blessed to have baked alongside him for 10 weeks.

She continued: "His bench was behind mine in week 1, and I knew straight away that he was a shining star, and he continued to showcase his incredible skills, flair and true passion for baking right until the very end.
“I could not be happier or more PROUD to call Giuseppe our winner. I love you so so much, bravo.”
Viewers of the show said that if it were not for Crystelle’s focaccia fail during the Mad Hatter Tea Party challenge, she might have won the competition. Addressing that point, she highlighted that in baking mistakes sometimes happen – particularly when things are getting a little tense.
"Secondly, to address the elephant in the room – yes, I made raw focaccia in the final. Please don’t try that at home folks. I think that’s a bake off first so I’m glad to have made history,” Crystelle continued.
"That just sums up baking – you can bake something 100 times but you can never guarantee it will always come out the same.
“I wish I could tell you what went wrong with that bake but, till this day, I still don’t know what happened!
"In a weird way, it reminded me of missing a penalty for England in the Euro final…there was so much pressure to do well and, for some reason, on the day, it just didn’t go to plan (and then Italy won)," she concluded.
As the youngest contestant to reach this year's Bake Off final, Crystelle was able to see the positive side in the experience.
“The most important thing I’ve learnt is to keep your head held high amidst any setbacks, keep smiling and to try again,” she said.
“I feel so much pride and happiness to have completed 10 weeks in that tent alongside such a talented bunch of friends.
“Making the final was an unthinkable achievement, and I still can’t quite believe I was part of it. I’m pretty much lost of words.
“To every single person that has supported me on my journey – thank you so much. I’m so blessed.”
