Richard Madeley caused quite the stir on Thursday's instalment of Good Morning Britain when he told Cat Deeley's that her presenting gig on ITV's Lorraine was "awful".

Just like 65 year old Richard, Cat is filling in for Lorraine Kelly on her daytime talk show while she enjoys some time off.

And Richard attempted to relate to Cat, 44, telling her: "You and me are doing the same thing here, we're both guest presenters. It's all the fun with none of the responsibility."

Cat quipped back: "Exactly! I can't believe they've let me do it all week. I thought I'd get the heath home on Monday."

Amused by her comment, Richard then joked: "So did I! I watched the show, and it was awful!"

Luckily Cat took the joke in good stride, and Richard went on to wish her well with the rest of her hosting commitments on Lorraine.

Richard certainly had viewers talking during his guest presenting gig on Good Morning Britain.

He discussed serious topics such as the coronavirus vaccine and the government's traffic light system with his co-host Charlotte Hawkins, but viewers couldn't help but compare him to comedy icon Alan Partridge.

Scores of viewers compared Richard's presenting style to the fictitious character, played by Steve Coogan, based on a failed broadcaster attempting to revive his career.

Meanwhile, Richard appeared to reveal a snippet of new information about Piers Morgan's Good Morning Britain exit during the episode.

He alluded that Piers had plans to leave the breakfast programme for a period of two months before his shocking exit back in March.

Discussing his return, the excited broadcaster, whose last appearance on the show was in March 2020, told his co-host: "I was meant to come back in April and May because Piers was meant to be going to America.

"So I would have been sitting alongside you quite a lot then, but all that went west, and here I am."
